Geneva Watch Days: what are the highlights of this edition?

Rows of second hand luxury watches, including brands by Rolex, Tag Heuer, Maurice Lacroix, Graham, Tudor, Omega, Nomos, Cartier, Jaeger LeCoultre, and Porsche, are seen in the window display of a store in the Swiss capital of Bern, in Switzerland, on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras's decision to call what is effectively a public vote on Greece's euro-area membership is also a blow for Switzerland, where the currency's appreciation is pushing the economy toward a recession. The second edition of the Geneva Watch Days was held from August 30 to September 3, 2021 and brought together some 25 prestigious houses. Here is a look back at this major event in the watchmaking world.

With 350 retailers and more than 300 journalists, a strong increase compared to the 2020 edition, the Geneva Watch Days have largely confirmed the interest dedicated to the watchmaking community. The Geneva Watch Days will return in September 2022 and are open to brands wishing to be represented.

The increase in attendance was accompanied by the opening of the Pavilion installed on the Rotonde du Mont-Blanc to the Geneva population, which could attend various thematic animations and discover the creations of the participating brands. Those brands have confirmed their participation and the possible expansion of the operation for next year.

This event was also an opportunity for the brands to unveil their new watches:

Doxa

Doxa -SUB 600T ‘Pacific’ limited edition

DOXA was founded in 1889 by Georges Ducommun. In the late 1960s, the brand focused on diving watches and launched the revolutionary SUB concept, considered the first professional diving watch truly adapted to the general public. 40 years later, it is reinterpreted for the first time in brushed titanium, and inaugurates a new blue reminiscent of the Pacific Ocean.

Bianchet

Bianchet Tourbillon B1.618 Openwork Titanium

A newcomer to the world of complication watches, Bianchet is a creative contemporary Swiss watch brand based on the modern reinterpretation of the Golden Number – 1.618 – in the world of fine watchmaking. The B1.618 Openwork Tourbillon has a tonneau shape. Seen from the side, its line is curved, as is its back. The superimposition of these two curves, that of the through colored joint, the thickness of the bezel and the play of height are also guided by the Fibonacci sequence.

Bulgari

Octo Roma World Timer – Bulgari

Bulgari has introduced its new Octo Roma WorldTimer, inspired by the world of travel. Designed for globetrotters, this new watch allows instant reading of the time in 24 cities, that is 24 time zones.

Maurice Lacroix

Aikon Automatic Chronograph Sprint – Maurice Lacroix

The AIKON Automatic Chronograph Sprint from Maurice Lacroix plays with color and texture, giving it a visual identity that is distinct from other models in the collection. The faceted hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for optimal readability in the dark.

Charles Girardier

Watch Dame 37 mm Fleur de Sel with Vert de Gris dial – Charles Girardier

Charles Girardier presented for the first time the Dame 37 mm Fleur de Sel model with Vert de Gris dial outside his showroom. It contains a flying tourbillon and a complication exclusive to the brand “mysterious signature”.

Alpina

Startimer Pilot Quartz Chronograph Grande Date – Alpina

Finally, Alpina presented its Startimer Pilot Quartz Chronograph in brushed and polished stainless steel. The Startimer Pilot is Alpina’s emblematic line, dedicated to aviation. It offers timepieces tailored to the pilot, meeting all the requirements that his practice requires: robustness, readability and precision.
