The Team Qhubeka NextHash, a South African cycling team, has announced in a press release a partnership with the luxury brand Burberry for the 2021 Tour de France.

Formerly known as Team Qhubeka ASSOS, the 8 members of the team will start the 108th Tour de France 2021 on Saturday 26 June wearing jerseys bearing the logo and monogram of the very famous British luxury house.

Indeed, Burberry is the first luxury brand to support a Tour de France team. While this may seem surprising at first, Qhubeka and Burberry share many common values.

United in a commitment to driving positive change in communities and building a more inclusive future, this partnership pursues these goals, while also being committed to achieving others. Indeed, the partnership has shared values of pushing boundaries, exploring new spaces to create possibilities and challenge expectations.

We are delighted to support the Qhubeka NextHash team, to partner with them as they compete in the Tour de France and to contribute to their charity work. We were inspired by their philosophy of uniting a diversity of cultures and backgrounds to focus on high performance while making a significant positive impact on the communities around them. We will be cheering them on at every stage of the Tour and in the future, and we are very proud to be part of their team” , commented Rod Manley, Burberry’s Marketing Director.

I am delighted to welcome Burberry as an official partner to our team, a brand founded on pioneering luxury outdoor clothing” said Douglas Ryder, Team Qhubeka NextHash leader.

Founded in 2007, the Qhubeka NextHash team became the first African cycling team to obtain a UCI WorldTour licence in 2016. Qhubeka, meaning ‘going forward’, enables non-profit programmes to help students get to school, health workers access more patients and first responders transport life-saving equipment to those in need. These programmes will also be supported by a donation from Burberry.

Our mutual passion for diversity and inclusion across the team and the Qhubeka charity is a strong bond, and we look forward to telling powerful stories together” continued Ryder.

It is Assos of Switzerland, a cycling jersey company, who was responsible for the production of the new jerseys.

As a brand with deep roots in professional cycling and a belief that ‘bikes change lives’, it was extremely important for us to support the team and its cause at a time when its future was in question. We are delighted that the team is able to continue its mission to win races, change lives with bikes and lead the development of the most technologically advanced equipment in the world” , said Derek Bouchard-Hall, ASSOS CEO.
