Hopium unveils the first French hydrogen-powered luxury car

At the Vivatech exhibition, the French car manufacturer Hopium unveiled the first prototype of its future high-end hydrogen car.

Hopium is a French car brand created in 2019 by Olivier Lombard, a French racing driver. Last October, he announced the future release of the first hydrogen-powered sedan made in France: the Hopium Machina.

Named Alpha 0, the first prototype was presented at the Vivatech trade fair, an event that brings together a large number of companies and start-ups involved in innovation and high technology.

The owner of this company, Olivier Lombard, explains that he wanted to put his experience of more than seven years at the wheel of hydrogen-powered racing cars to the benefit of a project for the general public, even if the Hopium Machina will be offered to a rather wealthy clientele.

In terms of power, Hopium promises 500 hp and a top speed of 230 km/h. As for its autonomy, it could travel up to 1000 km with a single tank of hydrogen, which would take only three minutes.

The car’s sleek design, designed for speed and aerodynamics, was entrusted to Félix Godard, who has worked on the Tesla Model 3, the Porsche Mission E and the Lucid Air, all of which are electric. Hopium also stated in a press release that the shape of its future sedan “recalls the stratification of hydrogen and the movement of waves on the surface of water” .

With the first deliveries scheduled for 2025, the Hopium Machina is expected to cost around €120,000. However, 1,000 units are available for pre-order, with a deposit of €410.
