Alpaca Awards 2021: All you need to know

The 2021 edition of the Alpaca Awards competition, organized by the Commercial Office of the Embassy of Peru in France Promperu, began last February 15 and ended last week. Back on the functioning of this contest.

Launched in Brussels and then on an international scale, in the city of Buenos Aires, by the group specializing in exports from Peru to France, Promperu, the Alpaca Awards competition aims to make young designers and the general public discover the alpaca fiber.

For the first time last February, the Alpaca Awards competition was held in Paris, on the occasion of the bicentenary of the independence of Peru. The competition is open to students from the five ESMOD schools and brought together nearly 60 candidates for this edition.

The students received an introduction to alpaca, from its breeding to its transformation. Thus, 75kg of alpaca yarns were provided by Peruvian partners Michell, Incatops, and Itessa, and then distributed to participants to create an upper-body garment.

The theme proposed is the bicentenary of the independence of Peru, it can be exploited in different forms and allude to freedom, metamorphosis, innovation, pre-Columbian civilizations, the crossbreeding of cultures, Inca, pre-inca and Spanish cultures“, explains Rosario Pajuelo, Director of Promperu France.

The five best creations are selected by the members of the jury, made up of French personalities from the fashion world, and the winners were announced at the award ceremony today.

Among the first two prizes, Manon Coiffard (1st year ESMOD Bordeaux) wins an internship in a Peruvian fashion company in the Cusco region (all expenses paid) and Louise Le Loch (1st year ESMOD Rennes) wins an internship in a Peruvian fashion company in the Arequipa region.

In third place, Lou Grandpré and Elanor Le Blanc (2nd year ESMOD Paris) both won an internship in a Peruvian fashion company in the Junin region. Finally, the fourth and fifth places are occupied by Nora Garcia (Intensive training ESMOD Rennes) and Juan Franco Quiliche Calderon (2nd year ESMOD Paris) who win respectively 100€ in vouchers in Alpaga Le Monde stores.

The launch of the Alpaca Awards in France is very significant because this country is the world reference for fashion and the cradle of great designers and brands of haute couture and ready-to-wear, for whom the alpaca – treasure of Peru – will no longer be a secret“, says Rosario Pajuelo.
