Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi has just acquired the Hotel Canut, located on Carlemany Avenue in the Principality of Andorra. A meeting was held on Tuesday 4 May to finalise the transaction between Leo Messi’s company and the family that owns the Andorran hotel.

Negotiations had been underway since early February between the Argentine footballer’s company and the owners of the five-star hotel. Nestled in the heart of the city, the Canut family had been looking for a new owner for a long time to take over their hotel and thus relaunch the family business.

This purchase adds to the long list of properties already acquired by Messi’s empire. The player is the head of the MiM Hotels chain, operated by Majestic Hotel Group, and has already taken over many luxury hotels in Spain and Catalonia.

His company has already bought five properties in Spain, in Sitges, Baqueira, Ibiza, Mallorca and now Andorra.

The arrival of MiM Hotels in Andorra should help revitalise the tourism sector, which has been severely affected by the Covid-19 health crisis.
