In France, the first batch of bitcoins sold at auction five times the market price

An unprecedented bitcoin auction was held in France, the first in the country and reached astronomical sums.

At the first bitcoin auction held in France, an amazing thing happened: the first lot of bitcoin sold in France was auctioned off well above its current price. The bids went up to 20,000€. Stunned, the auctioneer restarts the auction.

We will restart the auction“, announced the auctioneer, reminding them that “it is 0.11 bitcoin, not 1 bitcoin“.

But nothing happens, buyers continue to bet a fortune to hope to get the first lot of bitcoin sold at auction in France. 10,000€, 15,000€, 20,000€… Finally, the lot was sold for 26,800€. That is five times its market price, estimated at 5,000€.

Between a com’ stunt of a company wishing to acquire the first bitcoins sold at auction in France, or a poker move, assuming that the NFTs will allow this lot to be identified as a collector and to sell for more than its real value on the market, theories abound to explain this discrepancy between the purchase price and the real value of the lot.

The first auction offered a total of 611 bitcoins, divided into several hundred lots ranging from 0.11 bitcoin to 20 bitcoins. The popularity of this sale can be explained by the provenance of the bitcoins, belonging to the state, which reassured buyers, probably too wary to invest via an online platform.

Most lots sold for up to 10% more than the market price, taking into account the 14.5% fee. Buyers will receive their price 48 hours after acquiring them, which gives bitcoin plenty of time to fluctuate, for better or worse.
