Accor begins this new year with encouraging growth prospects and a full calendar of hotel openings around the world. Although the year 2020 has brought unprecedented challenges – with the travel and hotel sectors among the most impacted – Accor has maintained a steady pace of development and continued to implement new projects, enabling the Group to establish a solid calendar of openings for the entire year 2021.

“As we all know, 2020 has turned our daily lives upside down and impacted the hotel sector as a whole. However, the global recovery is expected to be rapid and significant”, said Agnès Roquefort, Director of International Development. “Despite the delays and temporary closures we have experienced due to the pandemic, we have continued to enjoy sustained momentum across our entire development portfolio”. “We are also convinced that the Covid-19 vaccination programs will renew the confidence of travelers and reassure the entire world population”.

The Accor group’s financial strength, international scope and unparalleled brand portfolio have enabled it to meet the challenges of 2020, while its development capabilities and organizational model have enabled it to meet its opening schedule.

The Lifestyle category is expected to become one of the most dynamic segments within the Accor Group in the coming years, with the number of openings in this category expected to triple by 2023. The Lifestyle segment currently accounts for approximately 5% of the Group’s annual revenue, while representing 25% of the development pipeline in value terms.

The recently announced joint venture with Ennismore, to be finalized in the second quarter of 2021, will help create a rich and diverse platform, made even more powerful this year by the opening of inimitably stylish addresses, including Mondrian Shoreditch London, JO&JOE Vienna Westbahnhof, SO/ Sotogrande Resort & Spa, and SLS Dubai and 25hours Dubai.

The luxury segment will also stand out in 2021 with the opening of the Banyan Tree Doha in Qatar and new Raffles in Udaipur and Macau. The Fairmont brand will see the much anticipated opening of the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, as well as the Fairmont Windsor in England, the Carton House, a Fairmont managed hotel in Dublin, the Fairmont Ramla Riyadh, the Fairmont Ambassador Seoul, and the Fairmont Tagazhout Bay in Morocco. Sofitel will bring a touch of French sophistication to new destinations in Seoul, Hangzhou and Adelaide.

Conversion opportunities also presented themselves in 2020 and will remain a growth driver in 2021 and beyond. Within the Group’s portfolio, the main brands offering conversion opportunities include The House of Originals (luxury), MGallery (very high-end), Mövenpick (high-end), Grand Mercure (high-end), Mercure (mid-range), ibis Styles (economy) and greet (budget). These seven brands alone represent 43% of Accor’s opening pipeline for the next five years. For example, this year, the MGallery brand will host various hotels in key destinations, including the Orchard Hills Residences Singapore – MGallery, The Silveri Hong Kong – MGallery, and The Porter House Hotel – MGallery, in Sydney.

All of these new addresses will fully comply with the ALLSAFE hygiene and cleanliness label established by Accor. This label was created by the group in mid-2020 to reassure its customers by adopting hotel cleanliness and hygiene standards verified by third-party organizations. These standards were developed and validated by Bureau Veritas, a leader in inspection, certification and laboratory testing. For more information, the attached list of “notable openings” provides a snapshot of the new Accor establishments that clients and travel enthusiasts will be able to discover around the world in 2021.
