To close its Climate Week, the LVMH Group highlights the environmental performance of its stores

Life 360 - LVMH

[vc_row njt-role=”people-in-the-roles” njt-role-user-roles=”administrator,armember”][vc_column][vc_column_text]From December 8 to 11, 2020, the French luxury giant organized its first edition of a digital Climate Week with the goal of raising the awareness of the Group’s 160,000 employees about global warming and the solutions deployed by LVMH to mitigate its effects. At the end of a cycle of 12 conferences, the event ended with a focus on the eco-responsible initiatives implemented by the Retail teams of the Group’s Houses.

For 25 years, LVMH‘s Environmental Department has supported the Group’s Houses in their efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of their stores. These initiatives are a continuation of the LIFE 360 – LVMH Initiatives For the Environment program based on four themes – creative circularity, biodiversity, climate and transparency – and a single watchword: “Be The Change”.

In addition to this program introduced in 2012, the LIFE in Stores Awards, an awards ceremony created in 2016, is intended to inspire all the LVMH Houses in their eco-responsible projects. Improving the energy performance of the Group’s stores is a priority of the LIFE in Stores Awards, one of the pillars of which is none other than the LVMH Lighting program.

And for good reason: lighting is one of the main sources of energy consumption for LVMH and 70% of its greenhouse gas emissions come from its stores. The company has therefore opted for the use of LEDs, which reduce electricity consumption by 30% on average compared to traditional lighting.

In addition to lighting, the LVMH Lighting program supports the Group’s Houses in other factors to improve environmental performance: insulation, air conditioning, heating, indoor air quality, site management, eco-design, etc. All these initiatives involve the establishment of focus groups, training sessions for architects, and a system for referencing the most innovative suppliers.

At the end of LVMH Climate Week, the Life in Stores Awards were presented to the Group’s stores that have taken the most innovative steps. These awards were presented to seven winners, including the Louis Vuitton store in Florence for its energy management project, the Bvlgari store of the Via Monte Napoleone (Milan) for its interior architecture and lighting system, the Loro Piana store (Munich) for the quality of its indoor air, and the Berluti store of the rue Saint-Honoré for its good maintenance.

With regard to all these initiatives, Hélène Valade, Director of Environmental Development for the LVMH Group, concluded the Climate Week in the following terms: « It is by co-creating solutions, by encouraging their effective adoption by as many people as possible, that things can move forward. Our employees have demonstrated once again that they want to get involved and, above all, they want to take action. In a Group like ours, there are no environmental experts on one side and business ‘as usual’ on the other. Sustainability is everywhere, so it belongs to everyone ».
