Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph: Bvlgari unveils a new finesse record at Geneva Watch Days

After nearly six months of absence and lack of novelties in the watchmaking sector, the House of Bvlgari has just inaugurated a grandiose event in Geneva. The Geneva Watch Days have opened their doors until this evening.

The House of Bvlgari has not released any novelties for nearly six months due to the current health crisis.

The company has inaugurated a meeting in the world capital of watchmaking to unveil its new products and announce a new record of finesse. The GWD, which runs from Wednesday to tonight, is being held in various hotels and boutiques in the City of Calvin. Bvlgari has chosen the Ritz-Carlton Hotel de la Paix.

It will be the only event in the watchmaking sector after the confinement on the Old Continent.

This is an opportunity for us to renew direct contact with our retailers,” explains Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bvlgari.

Bvlgari unveils two new pieces

The watchmaker also underlines that it is also an unprecedented statement since the pandemic with the presentation of two pieces, both at the antipodes: a cool chic Bvlgari Aluminium Bvlgari, as well as a new world record of finesse making the Italian brand the champion of the extra-flat with an Automatic Skeleton Tourbillon Chronograph version of its Octo Finissimo model.

Note that the Bvlgari Aluminium cool chic is the reincarnation of a timepiece born in 1998, which has become the jet-set timepiece, cut from materials that were pioneering at the time – aluminium and rubber – combined with a graphic design in black and white.

Moreover, the Aluminium collection is aimed at a very different clientele from the Octo collection, younger, more casual and sporty too.

We didn’t want to fundamentally change its design, betraying such a well-born product would have been criminal! This Bvlgari Aluminium collection, whose prices range from 2850 euros for the watch to 4000 euros for the chronograph, remains faithful to the tradition of a brand that knows how to be everyday, accessible, and at the same time complex and refined“, deciphers Jean-Christophe Babin.

This new chronograph has a double counter and a tourbillon at 6 o’clock.

It features a Manufacture BVL 388 movement with a power reserve of 52 hours and a high-flying timepiece with a titanium case 42 mm in diameter and a total thickness of 7.4 mm, of which only 50 are produced.

The pursuit of a race for records

But it is also the extraordinary products that create the legend. An Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Automatic with a caliber of only 3.5 mm thick, with its peripheral rotor. That’s a sixth world watchmaking record for Bulgari in six years! “he adds.

Finally, according to the CEO, these records are part of the company’s strategy.

It should be remembered that since 2014, the watchmaking landerneau has not seen a single vintage, with the exception of 2015, without the House setting a new record for finesse, making the Italian brand the champion of the extra-flat.

Only Piaget and its Atliplano Ultimate Concept with a height of 2 mm, including the case, is still in contention with this palm of finesse won in the field of mechanical watches with manual winding of the hours and minutes.

For the rest, Bvlgari has already entered its name in most other categories, starting with the thinnest tourbillon movement on the market – first manual (2014) then automatic (2018) -, followed by the minute repeater ((2016), then the world’s thinnest single automatic movement (2017), to be followed by the chronograph caliber doubled by a GMT of unequalled thickness.

In 2021, he plans to create a new one, in order to allow Bvlgari to move up to another level, notably in a price range from 5000 to 20,000 euros, to be at the heart of the luxury market.

But also as an exceptional watchmaker offering special complications, tourbillons, grand sonneries and minute repeaters.
