After more than two years of renovation work, the Palais Galleria in Paris, which has established itself as the fashion museum in France, will present the exhibition “Gabrielle Chanel, manifesto of fashion”. The retrospective devoted to the iconic dressmaker, which was due to take place in the spring, will run from 1 October to 14 March.
The House of Chanel, as a partner in the renovation and extension work at the Palais Galliera, is also inaugurating the reopening of the establishment. The museum has gained 670 square meters of exhibition space, it has new rooms on the ground floor and two new floors that will host temporary exhibitions or permanent exhibits.
The museum is also expanding its activities with the opening of a bookshop, a seasonal café and an educational workshop.
The establishment has also named the new galleries Gabrielle Chanel, in homage to the woman whose work has made its mark on fashion.
The exhibition brings together nearly 350 pieces from the Galliera collections, the Chanel heritage, private collections and major international museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the De Young Museum in San Francisco, the Museo de la Moda in Santiago de Chile and the MoMu in Antwerp.
On display will be the couturier’s greatest creations, such as jersey models, the famous 1950s tailor and his iconic dresses, but also a selection of jewellery, accessories and perfumes recreating Chanel’s vision of fashion and haute-couture.
