The Carats network, at the service of innovation in the fashion and luxury goods industry, with the support of DEFI mode de France, unveiled the re-edition of the report initially published in February 2019.

This re-publication, which is now available free of charge on the CARATS website, aims to drive new dynamics and implement innovation strategies within the fashion and luxury goods industry.

“Innovation has always been an integral part of the fashion and luxury goods industry, which has based its development on knowledge, mastery and the dissemination of exceptional techniques. “, underlines Guillaume de Seynes, Chairman of the Strategic Committee of the Fashion and Luxury Goods Sector.

4 workshops to draw the stakes of the fashion and luxury sector

The study firstly reconstructs the four IDFI (Innovative Design for Fashion Industry) workshops.

These IDFI workshops contribute to the regeneration of the industrial fabric of fashion and luxury. They are dedicated to strengthening relations between the players in the fashion and luxury industry and to scientific research through new collaborative approaches.

Each workshop focuses on a theme that reflects a challenge inherent to the fashion and luxury sector: Sustainable Development, Customer Experience, the Business Model and the Preservation of Know-How.

In order to structure the exchanges, these workshops use the conceptual framework of the CK theory (Concept-Knowledge). This theory allows to identify the knowledge and to make it speak in order to draw from it the most important issues.

Applied to sustainable development, it allows, for example, to put various points at the heart of the debate: limiting negative impacts, excluding negative impacts, reinforcing positive impacts and creating new positive impacts by questioning the role of prescribers in the world of luxury goods in particular.

The study also demonstrates significant challenges in improving the customer experience through innovation. It talks about machine learning, a prediction algorithm, in order to support knowledge about the predictability of customer desires. The question of the customer journey in the form of an escape game is also raised as an innovative response to improving the customer experience.

On the other hand, the innovative improvement of the Business Model allows to propose brand value based on quality, know-how or value for money.

Also of note is the importance of solutions to protect, transmit and preserve the know-how of the luxury sectors.

32 innovative projects promoted

Secondly, the study will promote research projects initiated in the framework of the CARATS program. It presents here 32 projects relating to the different sectors of fashion and luxury goods.

From Smart Buttons for connected haberdashery, through flexible and stretchy microelectronics integrated into textiles, to Artificial Intelligence for the preservation and transmission of know-how, various innovative projects are shaping the future of the luxury sectors.

These projects aim to advance scientific research in the fashion and luxury goods industry. They are presented to players in the sector to inspire an innovative and unifying dynamic to overcome the new challenges facing these sectors.
