Yesterday, Monday, April 13, four star chefs from the Four Seasons George V hotel provided a “5-star” Easter meal for the nursing staff of the Parisian Robert-Debré Hospital.

Christian Le Squer (Le Cinq restaurant), Simone Zanoni (Le George restaurant), Alan Taudon (L’Orangerie restaurant) and Michael Bartocetti (Shangri-La restaurant). Four great names in the world of gastronomy. Four renowned Michelin-starred chefs who braved the confinement to reinvest the kitchens of the Four Seasons George V luxury hotel for a weekend.

Their goal: to provide a high-quality meal for the Easter holiday season to the nursing staff of the Robert-Debré Hospital in Paris’ 19th arrondissement, to support them in their gruelling battle against coronavirus.

On the menu of this gastronomic meal specially created for the occasion: gazpacho, burrata and strawberry gariguette as a starter, lamb confit with lemon and its “spring garden” as a main course, vanilla tart with “first ciflorettes” and the Easter egg of George V, dark chocolate-praline hazelnut, as a dessert.

It has to be generous. The lamb can be eaten all day long, from noon until midnight“, said chef Christian Le Squer, the same chef who told Radio France Culture in 2019 that “true luxury is kindness“.

In total, the equivalent of 170 meals were cooked throughout the weekend with the help of about 20 volunteers from the hotel’s staff, including technicians and members of room maintenance, security, IT and reception.

Our primary goal is to please people and the little spark we’re going to be able to give them will only be a benefit“, chef Alan Taudon humbly summed up.

And on the morning of Monday, April 13, it was none other than the chef and director of the Thibaut Drege Hotel who himself, on board a truck to the units in charge of COVID-19, has delivered the meals directly to the hospital’s nursing staff.

A paschal meal to comfort caregivers exhausted by weeks of fighting the epidemic: a remarkable initiative from the Parisian palace.

This is not the first solidarity gesture by the luxury hotel chain. In the United States, the Four Seasons in New York announced on Wednesday 8 April that it would be turning itself into a free home for healthcare professionals. “The Four Seasons Hotel on 57th Street will offer free accommodation to doctors, nurses and medical staff currently working to respond to the COVID19 pandemic“, said New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo in a tweet.

These are solidarity and pragmatic initiatives to thank the medical staff, heroes of the nation, who mobilize on the front lines every day to win the war against the coronavirus.
