Financial support, donation campaign: the Italian Houses Pomellato and DoDo, in coordination with the Kering group, rallied last Tuesday, March 31, to face the dramatic increase in domestic violence since the beginning of the containment linked to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Since the beginning of the containment on Wednesday, March 17, “domestic violence has increased by 32% in one week in the gendarmerie zone. In the area of the Paris police prefecture, they have increased by 36% in one week“, according to French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner. In China, the number of victims of domestic violence is said to have doubled compared to the same period last year. It is these alarming numbers that have been shaking the world for several days.
In France and Spain, an emergency telephone number (114) has been made accessible to victims, but also the possibility for them to notify themselves in pharmacies via a coded message that will give the alert.
The Italian jewellery houses Pomellato and DoDo, part of the luxury conglomerate Kering, were also quick to mobilize and show their commitment in the fight against domestic abuse.
On Tuesday 31 March, they jointly announced a donation of 100,000 euros for the benefit of anti-violence centres in Italy. This sum will be directly donated to D.i.Re, the main Italian association for combating violence against women, which the Kering Foundation has been supporting for almost ten years. Part of it will also be given to CADMI, a shelter for abused women based in Milan, which is part of the D.I.Re network.
In addition to this donation, the two brands have launched a participative funding initiative to raise funds for the benefit of these two entities, which have been working in the field for over thirty years. A crowdfunding campaign that is a continuation of the Pomellato for women project launched by the brand in 2017 and which has led to multiple initiatives such as the digital campaign “Pomellato Sisterhood” in 2019 defending women’s success, leadership and equality in video. These initiatives brought together celebrities and leading figures in feminism such as Jane Fonda, Cate Blanchett, Chiara Ferragni and Germany’s Caroline Daur.
Sabina Belli, CEO of the Pomellato Group, said: “Pomellato will always and without hesitation act in support of women, and we want every victim to know that they are not alone.” The call for donations launched on April 1st has already gathered around 100 contributions.
A great initiative on the part of the two jewellery firms to help the women victims of abuse, who can be supported here.
