Elon Musk chooses Germany for New Tesla Gigafactory

High-end electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla will open a gigafactory on the outskirts of Berlin, the fourth after Nevada, New York and Shanghai in China.

Goal? The manufacture of batteries, engines, Tesla Model Y and Model 3.

Tesla represents 30% of the European electric car market while “Germany produces half of the best cars in the world” said Elon Musk.

This announcement is good news for the Tesla industry because competition makes it possible to do better and faster, according to Ferdinand Dudenhoeffer, professor at the Automotive Research Centre of the University of Duisburg Essen.

The plant will be located near the new airport

Elon Musk wants to move faster than the construction of the airport. Indeed, Berlin-Brandenburg should have been inaugurated in 2012, but its opening has been postponed indefinitely due to a multitude of deficiencies, particularly in terms of fire safety.

As a result, 10,000 jobs will be created and construction will cost 2 billion euros. “Berlin goes well with the high-end, no one can imagine Tesla in Poland or Ukraine,” says the billionaire boss.

An SUV and a driverless car

After 2 quarters of recession, Tesla has promised to deliver between 360,000 and 400,000 cars this year.

Construction of the Model Y will begin in 2020 in all plants.

However, many experts doubt Elon Musk’s other promise: to build a 100% autonomous car and create a service like Uber but without a driver.
