Placed in receivership in 2018, French Couture House Vionnet has announced that it has been acquired by ChimHaeres, a structure composed of two investment companies. With a real expansion plan, ChimHaeres aims to become a platform bringing together major European luxury and lifestyle brands.

The French fashion house Vionnet has been reborn. The label said it has been acquired by ChimHaeres Investment Holding, a joint venture between the Philippe Camperio-led Haeres Capital and the investment company Chimera Abu Dhabi.

The Haute Couture brand was founded in Paris in 1912 by Madeleine Vionnet and was very successful until the beginning of World War II. Since 2012, it was owned by Goga Ashkenazi, a wealthy businesswoman of Russian-Kazakh origin. In 2018, it faced financial difficulties and was placed in receivership.

“Vionnet is an iconic label and it has fascinated me for a while. I admire the values it advocates”, said Philippe Camperio, director of Haeres Capital. “Incredibly revolutionary, this fashion designer was already concerned about women’s emancipation and respect for the environment and textile-related pollution at the time. In addition to her creativity, she was able to identify the major issues of our time even before they became topical.”

ChimHaeres has not yet announced a new artistic director for Vionnet, but hopes to make a big comeback on the catwalks of the next Paris Fashion Week.

A luxury platform

ChimHaeres’ ambition is to create a true platform specialized in luxury brands. The investment structure will initially focus on brands located in the UK, Italy, France and Switzerland. Vionnet will join other luxury and lifestyle brands that have already been acquired by ChimHaeres, such as Borsalino, the Swiss pantyhose brand Fogal and the iconic Italian coachbuilder and car designer Zagato.

“ChimHaeres embodies the joint vision of Chimera and Haeres to build and manage a multi-brand luxury and lifestyle platform”, says Philippe Camperio. “With these initial commitments and a strong shareholder base, ChimHaeres remains on the lookout for investments in high-value brands, with the aim of accelerating its growth with a focus on international expansion, digital and innovation.”

“We are confident that our partnership with Haeres will enable us to capitalize on the attractive long-term fundamentals of the sector and establish ourselves as a leading lifestyle investor in Europe”, added Mirian Khalaf, head of private equity at Chimera Abu Dhabi.
